PHASE ONE: Introducing The 100% Club to community leaders and to other adults
SCMEA members are encouraged to support the 100% Club Campaign. For this project to work we need the active participation of the entire membership, especially during Phase One of our campaign. The goal of Phase One is to build a club membership of 30,000 to create the momentum we need to really make a difference for music education in South Carolina. The SCMEA membership is nearly 1,500. If we could get every member of our association to recruit 25 members to the club we would more than meet our startup membership goal.

The SCMEA expects to use this project to:
  • Raise public awareness for music education and to inform citizens of the benefits that music brings to their lives and to society in general.
  • Convince school administrators and lawmakers that music and arts education is a necessity if we hope to develop the creative potential of every individual.
  • Encourage the expansion of school curricula to allow every child an opportunity to participate in an arts program.
Please consider:
  • The economy is suffering and things that are not valued WILL be reduced or eliminated.
  • Research shows that music and arts education is vital to building the creative potential of every individual. Innovative minds are essential to compete in the 21st Century workplace and in a global society.
  • Music education is considered a "frill" by many of the "policy makers" who will soon determine the future of music and arts education in South Carolina.
  • A membership list of 80,000 people would be hard for lawmakers to ignore. (But remember ... more people than that show up on any given Saturday for a Clemson or South Carolina football game.) Can you imagine having 1,000,000 people declare their support for music education? With a state population of nearly 4,000,000 it is certainly possible.
